Get to Know Dr. Joseph Montesano
Born and raised in Roxbury, NJ, Dr. Joseph Montesano has been part of the world of dentistry for a decade and counting. From assistant to dentist, he’s enjoyed every bit of his work and loves being able to create a significant impact in the lives of his patients. Other than treating pearly whites, he likes getting to know others and their families while also helping them improve their oral health. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
During high school, Dr. Montesano believed he wanted to become a medical doctor, but his experience at the hospitals and offices wasn’t what he imagined. After interning at his local dentist’s office, he immediately fell in love with the field! Witnessing how significantly he could change people’s lives while getting to know them on a personal level drew him in. He also learned the importance of oral health on a person’s quality of life. He hasn’t thought about doing any other career since!
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Montesano worked as a dental assistant at his local dentist’s practice from high school to dental school (during breaks). He attended Seton Hall University, double majoring in Philosophy and Biology. Then, he went on to obtain his dental doctorate from Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated summa cum laude. He is also ACLS and BLS certified. He’s received various awards, including the

- Harvard Dental Alumni Association Gold Medal for Scholastic Excellence
- Academy of Osseointegration Outstanding Dental Student in Implant Dentistry Award
- American Academy of Periodontology Outstanding Achievements in Periodontics
- Patty and Paul Levi Research Award
Dr. Montesano remains dedicated to pursuing continuing education to refine his knowledge and techniques. Currently, he is working towards a certificate and specialty in Periodontology and an MMSC in Oral Biology from Harvard. He is also a proud member of several professional organizations, such as the:

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Whenever he isn’t at the office treating smiles, Dr. Montesano has a passion for gardening and has well over 30 different plants in his house. He even harvests his own tomatoes and peppers! He also likes outdoor activities like bike riding and walking around the Boston neighborhoods. Cooking and enjoying time and meals with friends and loved ones is also an all-time favorite for him. He also loves watching the Patriots!
